Cole Thompson Anders won the British
Expertise International Award in the Small Consultancy Firm of the Year
2006 category for the INTEGER Pavilion, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
The project was an extraordinary international collaboration to promote
intelligent and green technologies. The prize was announced and presented
by HRH The Duke of Gloucester at the British Expertise International Awards
Presentation and Dinner on 14th November 2006.

Cole Thompson Anders has been appointed
by University College London to refurbish Hawkridge House, a fifteen
storey tower block providing student flats. The refurbishment will
include overcladding and new windows, renewal of M&E services, layout
amendments, new kitchens and bathrooms and general improvements to circulation
etc.

Our model of Glastonbury House
is on prominent display as part of the Sustainable Living by Design Exhibition,
currently showing at RIBA. There is growing interest in this full
overhaul and upgrade of a 1960’s tower block to achieve EcoHomes ‘very good’
standard. Sustainable refurbishment represents one aspect of responsible

Nick Thompson initiated China Fortnight
at the RIBA, which covered a wide range of projects, from ambitious sustainable
cities and organic farms to transport infrastructure with eco-friendly features.
Highlights included contributions from Arup, Foster & Partners, Terry
Farrell & Partners, Oval Partnership, the Architecture Association, Alsop
and many others. Nick Thompson said: “There are exciting opportunities
in China for architects and engineers. With China Fortnight we hope to demonstrate
that we have started to make a significant contribution towards sustainability
in the PRC.

The innovative
designs for a cluster of six new homes to be built on a small site
in the ‘garden village’ of New Earswick, York, were praised by an expert

degree of attention to environmental standards and sustainability.

The INTEGER Hong
Kong Pavilion moves to Beijing. The INTEGER Hong Kong Pavilion,
designed by Cole Thompson Associates, was designed to be fully de-mountable
and re-usable. At the end of its two year programme in Hong Kong, the
Pavilion is now being moved to Beijing where it will be used as a permanent
Power and Environmental exhibition centre.

Nick Thompson explores further
opportunities in Kunming. On the World Expo 99 site, Cole Thompson
Associates designed the first phase of an environmental housing development
of 2,500 homes. This site is to be a model for the development of a major
environmental extension to the city of Kunming
